CONFIDENTIAL DOCUMENTATION TO BE SHARED WITH FIRST BAPTIST CHURCH MEMBERS ONLY
PROGRESS REPORT
February 27, 2022
The First Baptist Church Pulpit Committee, under the auspices of the Deacon Ministry,
was approved at the Quarterly Church Meeting held on October 9, 2021 and consists of
representatives across the ministries and organizations of the church in accordance
with the church’s by-laws.
The committee intends to update the congregation regularly on the progress of selecting
a new pastor. However, the sensitive nature of selecting such an impactful position
requires prayerful diligence and confidentiality which is key to an effective and efficient
selection process. Our goal is to provide updates without infringing on the integrity of
the process or the privacy of the candidates being considered.
Since our first meeting on January 11, 2022, the committee (including subcommittees)
has received the charge from Pastor Tucker, lead the church’s annual New Year prayer
and fasting season, elected officers, heard lessons learned from other pastoral search
committees, began developing the overall plan for the selection, and began assigning
responsibilities to subcommittees.
The committee is working to release a church-wide survey to help us better understand
the type of pastor the congregation believes is needed. In order for the survey to be
meaningful, we are asking for full participation and honest prayerful feedback from the
members of the church. As such, we are asking the congregation to contact the church
office or Dr. Linda Smallwood if you have not provided or need to update your contact
information (see contact information below).
